Sorry, just had to purge that cliche really quickly. This is my first blog for 4450, the news reporting class I will be taking this semester, in which I will be working as a reporter on the Public Safety and Health beat at the Columbia Missourian. I’ve chosen to repurpose what was previously a catch-all blog into a portfolio accompanied by bi-weekly updates about what I’m working on at the moment.
I’m probably (read: definitely) more anxious than I should be about starting at the Missourian. I worked as a reporter for the Grand Forks Herald in Grand Forks, North Dakota, this summer – I mean, for 8 hours a day, I did things like track down farmers working out in fields to talk about flooding, took mini road trips and profiled entire small towns and, on my second day, went to cover a bomb threat at a high school by myself. So why am I worried?
Maybe it has something to do with everything feeling very real to me now, like I’m finally doing what I came to school for. So, with that said, let’s get this started.
